I'm mostly using this first post to see what it looks like on the blog, so I guess I'll just ramble a little bit and mention that I got Shea Serrano's new book Movies (And Other Things) today as a gift from my wife, and today for our school picture day (my wife and I teach at the same school that our three kids go to) all three of my kids insisted on wearing the newly-bought Halloween clothes that my wife bought for them, so I'm interested to see how photogenic my daughter looks in her bat-headband or how noticeable the disembodied zombie hand on my son's shirt is.
Wait, this is supposed to be about music, so I need to also have music-type stuff here. Dang, already getting sidetracked and I've hardly started. Ok, so I guess I'll mention that the name of this blog comes from one of my favorite songs from one of my all-time favorite bands, The Clash. Joe Strummer is an eternal badass and I love basically everything he's done, especially his work with the Mescaleros, so here's a low quality video of said song, covered by said band:
Also, I get a ton of music from bandcamp.com. It's a great source for finding smaller bands. Payday was about a week ago and I bought like five albums on there, so let's see if I can embed a song from there onto this here post.
<iframe style="border: 0; width: 350px; height: 442px;" src="https://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/track=1708014647/size=large/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/tracklist=false/transparent=true/" seamless><a href="http://earlyriserrr.bandcamp.com/track/you-can-make-him-like-you">You Can Make Him Like You by Early Riser</a></iframe>
Yes, success! This is from a band that I'd never heard of previously (Early Riser), covering a band I'm very well acquainted with (The Hold Steady). Kinda cool to hear the lyrics of this song sung by a woman, adds another dimension to it. This is a pay-what-you-want download, and as it says on the song page, All proceeds will benefit RAICES, a nonprofit agency that promotes justice by providing free and low-cost legal services to underserved immigrant children, families, and refugees. Was very happy to donate, and the song was an added bonus.
Well, I think that's it for now.
